About Us

Boy Scout Troop 362 is comprised of boys from Selden, Coram, Centereach, and Port Jefferson Station. Our Charter Organization is Hope Lutheran Church in Selden. We meet Monday nights, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Stagecoach Elementary School. The boys are busy; most months we have a camping trip planned. Some local; some not-so-local. Our annual week-long summer campouts are legendary. During these campouts the boys swim, fish, rifle shoot, shotgun shoot, row boats, sail boats, bow and arrow shoot, (etc. etc...). They learn orienteering, first aid, emergency preparation, communication, citizenship, and wilderness survival. They earn Merit Badges while having a blast. Many Troops attend the same summer camp year-after-year. We try to break new ground every year. There are hundreds of Boy Scout camps throughout the country. We think it is good for the boys to see more than one.

We hike like Scouts, taking what we need with us, and leaving behind what we don't need (less weight carried = happier boy during hike). They not only hike with food, but with their methods of preparation, cooking, serving, and eating. They think, plan, impliment their plan, and ultimately assess the effectiveness of that plan. The adult leaders guide, but do not control the activities. The boys have fun. The boys make mistakes, but learn from them. The boys are recognized for their achievements. The boys help each other accomplish these achievements. The boys advance through the ranks.
